Ginta vs Google Sites
Ginta vs Google Sites: which free website builder is better for a business?
Google Sites is a free, simple way to put pages online with a Google account, and it connects your own domain without a paid plan. It has no shop, no booking and no form of its own: for those you embed other things (a Google Form, a Calendar booking page, a payment link). Ginta is free too, and built for businesses: you describe yours, Ginta designs and writes the site, and booking, a shop, quote requests, events and forms that email you are built in.
If you need a page for a club, a class or an internal team, Google Sites is hard to beat. If the website has to take bookings or orders, Ginta does that without the patchwork.

| Custom domain | On paid plans (from €5 a month): 1 domain on Hosting and Light, more on bigger plans. Connect one you own (Ginta shows the DNS steps for your registrar) or buy one in Ginta for €29 a year, registered in your name and set up for you. | Yes: connect a domain you own from any registrar (verified in Search Console), or buy one through a Workspace plan. |
| Owner admin | yoursite.com/admin, when the site has a form or a ready-made part: messages, menu, bookings and the like, without the editor. You plus 1 helper on Free, 3 helpers on Light. | Yes: share the site with editors; they need a Google account to edit. |
| Build from Claude/ChatGPT | Yes: Ginta's MCP server (ginta.app/mcp, also in Claude's connector directory) lets Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor build, publish and change the site, using no Ginta credits. | Partly: the Gemini app can export an app it made to Sites; Claude and ChatGPT can't publish to Sites. |
Ginta's prices include tax and are the same number in euros (eurozone) or US dollars (everywhere else). Google Sites's prices can differ by country: check its pricing page before you buy.
When to pick Google Sites
- Your own domain for free. Google Sites connects a domain you already own from any registrar; on Ginta your own domain starts at €5 a month.
- You live in Google Workspace. Embed Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar and Drive content straight into pages; share with your team by Google account.
- Internal or private sites. Publishing can be restricted to chosen people; work and school accounts have more options. (A Ginta website can be made private too, on every plan, but with one shared password, not per person.)
When to pick Ginta
- Booking and a shop, built in. Online booking with deposits, a shop with a cart and delivery options, events with places, quote requests: on every plan, Free included (up to 25 products, 30 bookings a month and 5 upcoming events per website), with payments through your own Stripe account.
- Forms that just email you. A contact form's messages go to your inbox in Ginta and your email, on every plan.
- You don't lay it out. Ginta designs the site for your kind of business and writes the texts; change anything by asking or by clicking a text on the page.
- Built for search. Ginta writes each page's title, description and structured data (your business, hours, menu, products) and a sitemap, and keeps the pages fast.
- You build with Claude or ChatGPT. Your assistant can create, publish and change the whole site through Ginta's MCP server.
Google Sites online store and booking: the usual workarounds
People who start on Google Sites and then want to sell or take bookings usually add:
- Booking: a Google Calendar booking page embedded or linked. With a personal account that's one booking page; more schedules, reminders and payments need a paid Google plan (Google's premium features list).
- Selling: payment links (Stripe, PayPal) or a shop widget pasted into the page; there's no cart or order list in Sites.
That works for a few products or appointments. When it doesn't, the comparison is: how to add online booking to your website and how to sell online without Shopify.
Moving from Google Sites to Ginta
There's no import. Paste your pages' texts into Ginta's chat (or send screenshots), ask for booking or a shop, add your photos, then point your domain at Ginta with the DNS steps it shows. Keep the Google Site until the new one is live.
