Ginta Commerce
Sell gift cards on your website, emailed to the person you choose

A gift card in Ginta is a product like any other: you choose the amounts, buyers pay for it in the cart, and Ginta emails a code to the person they name (or to the buyer), with their message. That code works in your shop's cart until it's used up, and what's left stays on the card. It's on every plan, Free included, with card payments through your own Stripe account.
How it works for the buyer
- They open your gift card, pick an amount (for example €25, €50 or €100) and, if it's a present, write who it's for (their email and name) and a short message.
- They pay in the cart like any order.
- Ginta emails the gift card to that person (or to the buyer, if they left those fields empty): the amount, your shop's name, the message and the code.
- The person who gets it types the code in your cart's Have a code? box. If the order costs less than the card, the rest stays on it for next time; if it costs more, they pay the difference by card.
How it works for you
- Set it up once. In Shop → Products add a product, tick Gift card, and give it an Amount option with the values you want. Or ask Ginta in the chat: "add gift cards for €25, €50 and €100".
- Make one yourself for a raffle prize, a regular customer or as credit instead of a refund: Shop → Codes → Make a gift card, with an amount and, if you like, someone to email it to.
- See every card with its code, the amount and what's left.
- Refunds give the value back. If you refund an order that was paid partly with a gift card, that part goes back on the card.
A few things to know
- Gift cards are sold in your shop's one currency.
- A gift card is paid like any order, so Stripe's card fee applies to it; Ginta adds no fee.
- Your Sales screen counts a gift card as revenue when it's sold, and the orders paid with it as usual. If your accountant wants gift cards treated apart (in some countries they're taxed when spent, not when sold), ask them how to book them; the orders CSV shows which part of each order was paid by gift card.
Questions
Can people buy a gift card for themselves?
Yes. If they leave "Send it to" empty, the gift card is emailed to them.
Do gift cards expire?
Ginta doesn't end them by itself. If your country requires or allows an end date, say it in the gift card's description and in your returns line.
What if the order costs more than the gift card?
The gift card pays what it can and the buyer pays the rest by card on Stripe's checkout. If the order costs less, the rest stays on the card.
Do I need Stripe to sell gift cards?
Yes, buyers pay for gift cards by card. Gift cards you make yourself work without it.
