Ginta vs Ecwid

Ginta vs Ecwid: is Ecwid still free, and what will a small shop pay?

Ecwid, by Lightspeed, is an online store you add to any website or run on its own Instant Site, with paid plans from $5 a month. Ginta builds the whole website around your shop: you describe the business, it writes the pages and sets up the shop with your products, and buyers pay by card through your own Stripe account.

Ecwid no longer has a free plan for new accounts: its help centre lists four paid plans, starting with Starter at $5 a month for 10 products. Ginta's Free plan holds 25 products per website with sizes and colours, discount codes and gift cards, at a name.ginta.page address. Pick Ecwid if you already have a website, sell digital goods or subscriptions, or want PayPal and a point of sale. Pick Ginta if you want the website and the shop made for you, with no plan to upgrade for discounts or variants.

What Ecwid really costs a small shop

Say you sell 30 products in a few sizes, 20 orders of €30 a month, from Ireland. On Ecwid, 30 products need Venture: €35 a month, or €29 a month paid yearly (€348 a year), plus tax. If each size should have its own stock, that's Business: €65 a month or €49 paid yearly. Cards through Lightspeed Payments in Ireland cost 1.9% + €0.25, about €0.82 an order, so about €16.40 a month.

On Ginta, the same shop fits the Free plan at a name.ginta.page address, or €19 a month (VAT included) with your own domain. Ginta takes 0 %; Stripe charges its card fee, for a standard EEA card 1.5% + €0.25, about €0.70 an order, so about €14 a month.

Moving from Ecwid to Ginta

Export your products from Ecwid as a CSV file (its help centre shows how). Ginta's CSV import reads Shopify, Etsy and WooCommerce exports or any spreadsheet: it matches the columns, shows a preview first, and updates products with the same name. Add your photos, connect Stripe, then your domain. Keep Ecwid open until the new shop has taken its first order.
