Ginta vs Squarespace
Ginta vs Squarespace Commerce: which is cheaper for a small online shop?
Squarespace is a design-led website builder with a full online store on every paid plan, from unlimited products to subscriptions, digital content and gift cards. Ginta builds a small business's website with the shop already in it, takes card payments through your own Stripe account on every plan (Free too), and takes 0 % of your sales.
The two differ most on the cheapest plans. Squarespace has no free plan, and its Basic plan takes 2% of every shop sale and has no discount codes. Ginta sells on Free and puts every shop feature on every plan. Squarespace is the stronger choice for digital products, memberships, PayPal and in-person sales. For websites in general (not shops), see Ginta vs Squarespace.

When to pick Squarespace
- You sell digital products, courses or memberships. Every Squarespace plan sells them (with a fee of 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 0% on Advanced). Ginta's Shop sells physical products only.
- You sell subscriptions. Squarespace sells subscription goods or services on every plan. Ginta has no repeat deliveries.
- Buyers want PayPal, Klarna or Afterpay. Squarespace connects PayPal (with Venmo on phones) and offers Klarna and Afterpay through Squarespace Payments or Stripe. Ginta has cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, no PayPal.
- You also sell at markets or in a shop. Squarespace's app is a point of sale in the US and UK. Ginta has none.
- You ship a lot. From Core, Squarespace prints shipping labels and calculates carrier rates. Ginta prices delivery by zone, weight or order total, without labels or live carrier rates.
- You have more than 500 products. Squarespace sells unlimited products on every plan.
When to pick Ginta
- You want to start without paying. Ginta's free plan has the whole Shop and card payments through your own Stripe, with up to 25 products per website. Squarespace has a 14-day trial, then a paid plan.
- You don't want a cut taken from each sale. Ginta takes 0 % on every plan. On Squarespace Basic, 2% of shop sales goes to Squarespace on top of card fees.
- Discount codes on the cheapest plan. Ginta's codes, automatic discounts, buy X get Y, volume prices and gift cards are on every plan, Free included. Squarespace's discounts start at Core.
- Buyers pick a pickup time. Ginta's pickup has time slots (days, hours, every 15 to 120 minutes, orders per slot). Squarespace's local pickup doesn't let customers choose a time.
- Your own domain, month to month. €5 a month on Hosting (with your own Claude or ChatGPT) or €19 on Light (Ginta's AI). Prices include VAT.
What Squarespace Commerce really costs a small shop
Take a shop in the eurozone with 20 orders of €30 a month (€600), paid with personal cards through Squarespace Payments (2% + €0.25 on Basic and Core):
| Plan (annual, with VAT) | Squarespace's fee | Card fees | A month | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €13.31 | 2% = €12 | €17 | €42.31 |
| Core | €20.57 | 0% | €17 | €37.57 |
So at this size Core costs less than Basic. Paid month to month, Basic is €18.15 with VAT. On Ginta the plan is €0 on Free (at name.ginta.page) or €19 a month on Light; Ginta adds nothing per order, and Stripe charges its card fees (Stripe's page for Lithuania shows 1.5% + €0.25 for standard EEA cards, about €14 for these 20 orders).
Squarespace vs Shopify for an online store, or neither?
This page doesn't check Shopify's plans. Whichever platform you look at, three questions decide what a small shop pays: does the cheapest plan take a cut of each sale, are discount codes included, and can you start for free? On Squarespace the answers are 2% on Basic, discounts from Core, and a 14-day trial. If you sell a few dozen physical products, take pickup orders and want the website written for you, Ginta is a third option that costs nothing to start. A worked example: how to sell online without Shopify.
Moving from Squarespace to Ginta
Export your products from Squarespace as a CSV file (up to 10,000 products; images, variant images and reviews are left out). Ginta's CSV import matches the columns of any spreadsheet, shows a preview first, and updates products with the same name. Add your photos, connect Stripe and your domain, and keep Squarespace running until the new shop has taken its first order.

Does Squarespace charge a transaction fee?
On Basic, yes: 2% of online store sales, also when buyers pay through Stripe. Core and Advanced have no store fee. Digital content and memberships carry their own fee (7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 0% on Advanced). Card processing comes on top. Ginta takes 0 % of sales on every plan; Stripe charges its card fees.
Is there a free Squarespace plan for selling?
No. Every site starts with a 14-day free trial without a card, then needs a paid plan: Basic is €11 a month billed yearly or €15 monthly, before VAT, in the eurozone. Ginta's free plan sells with up to 25 products per website.
Can I manage a Squarespace shop from Claude or ChatGPT?
Partly. Squarespace's MCP lets Claude and ChatGPT create and update products and contacts and read orders, but not take payments, refund or fulfil orders, and it doesn't build the website. Ginta's MCP server builds the whole website with the shop and manages products, orders and discounts.
Can Ginta sell digital products or memberships?
No. Ginta's Shop sells physical products, delivery and pickup. If those are what you sell, Squarespace fits better.
How do I move from Squarespace to Ginta?
Export your products as a CSV from Squarespace and import it into Ginta, which matches the columns and shows a preview. Squarespace's export leaves out images, so add photos in Ginta. Then connect Stripe and your domain.
