Ginta vs WooCommerce
Ginta vs WooCommerce: what does a WooCommerce shop really cost?
WooCommerce is free, open-source shop software for WordPress: you choose the host, the theme and the extensions. Ginta is a website with the shop already built in: you describe the business, it writes the pages and sets up the shop, and it's live in about a minute. WooCommerce gives you full control and a huge range of extensions, and it suits people with a WordPress site or a developer. Ginta suits a small shop owner who wants to sell this week without installing, updating or paying for anything to start.

When to pick WooCommerce
- You want full control. It's open source and, in Woo's words, "gives you full control": any host, any payment provider, any features, with no platform fee or revenue share.
- You already run WordPress. WooCommerce is built for WordPress, so the shop goes into the site you already have.
- Digital downloads, subscriptions or bookings. Downloads are in the core; Subscriptions (252 € a year) and Bookings (225 € a year) are extensions. Ginta's Shop sells physical products and pickup only.
- More ways to pay. WooPayments takes Klarna, Afterpay, iDEAL, Bancontact and others, and PayPal has its own extension. Ginta takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe.
- Selling in person. The Woo Mobile App takes card payments with Tap to Pay, a card reader or WooCommerce POS. Ginta has no point of sale.
- An extension for almost anything. Woo's pricing page puts extensions at $29 to $299 a year each, so you add only the features you need.
When to pick Ginta
- Nothing to install, host or update. Ginta runs the website and the shop for you. Free to start, with your own domain from €5 a month (with your own Claude or ChatGPT) or €19 on Light.
- The shop features are included. Gift cards, sets at their own price, buy X get Y, automatic discounts, back-in-stock emails, product reviews, pickup time slots and delivery by weight are on every Ginta plan, Free too.
- 0% on sales. Buyers pay on Stripe's checkout into your own Stripe account; Stripe charges its card fee and Ginta adds nothing.
- Built for you from one message. Write what you sell, your prices and delivery; Ginta writes the pages and sets up the shop. Change it later by asking, or in the Shop's settings without the AI.
- Run it from Claude or ChatGPT today. Ginta's MCP server lets your assistant build and change the whole website, shop included, and manage products. WooCommerce's MCP is a developer preview for products and orders.
What a WooCommerce shop really costs
Say you sell 20 orders of €30 a month (€600) from Lithuania, on WordPress.com's Commerce plan:
- Hosting: US$45 a month billed yearly = US$540 a year, excl. taxes (US$70 a month if you pay monthly).
- WooPayments: 1.5% + €0.25 per order = €9 + €5 = €14 a month for European cards (cards from outside Europe +2%).
- Gift cards and bundles, if you want them: 72 € + 72 € = 144 € a year.
Cheaper hosts exist, and Woo's own estimate for most stores is $25 to $350 a month. On Ginta's free plan the same shop pays Ginta nothing, with gift cards, sets and pickup slots included; Stripe charges its card fee per order.
WooCommerce vs Shopify for a small business
WooCommerce is free software you host yourself; Shopify is a hosted service from €19 a month (Basic, paid yearly, as shown to an EU visitor) with hosting included. On Shopify, a payment provider other than Shopify Payments costs an extra 2% on Basic; WooCommerce has "no platform fees, no revenue share" with any provider. WooCommerce gives you more control, Shopify less work. Ginta is a third way: hosted like Shopify, free to start, and 0% on sales, for shops that don't need digital products, subscriptions or a point of sale. See also Ginta vs Shopify.
Moving from WooCommerce to Ginta
Export your products from WooCommerce as a CSV and import it into Ginta: columns are matched and you see a preview first. Then connect Stripe and your domain. Downloads, subscriptions, customer accounts and extensions don't come over. Keep the old shop open until the new one has taken its first order.

Is WooCommerce really free?
The software is: it's open source with no monthly subscription. You still pay for hosting (Woo estimates $25 to $350 a month for most stores; WordPress.com Commerce is US$45 a month billed yearly) and for any paid extensions, usually $29 to $299 a year each.
What does WooPayments charge?
No setup or monthly fee. Per card payment: 2.9% + $0.30 in the US, 1.5% + €0.25 in Germany and Lithuania, 1.5% + £0.25 in the UK, plus 2% for cards from outside Europe (1.5% for international cards in the US). WooCommerce itself takes no share of sales, and neither does Ginta.
Is WooCommerce or Shopify better for a small business?
WooCommerce if you want full control and someone can look after WordPress; Shopify if you want a hosted shop with in-person sales and apps and are happy to pay from €19 a month. If you sell physical products and want to start free, Ginta's free plan holds 25 products per website.
Can I move my WooCommerce products to Ginta?
Yes. Export the products CSV from WooCommerce and import it in Ginta's Shop: columns are matched, you see a preview first, and a product with the same name is updated instead of doubled.
Can I manage WooCommerce from Claude or ChatGPT?
Partly. WooCommerce's MCP integration is a developer preview: an MCP app such as Claude can list, add and change products and update orders, after you set up a WordPress Application Password and, for a remote site, a local proxy. Ginta's MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT build and change your whole website, shop included.
