Website for candle makers

A candle business website where people pick a scent and a size and buy it

People can't smell a candle through a screen, so the website has to do it in words and photos: what each scent is like, how big, how long it burns, and what shipping costs. Then let them pick a scent and a size and pay.

Free to start: finish the sentence, create a free account and confirm your email (25 free credits), and Ginta builds it right away.

Salt & Wick, a soy candle website for Fremantle: a dark teal first screen with “Soy candles, poured by hand in Fremantle”, Shop candles and Meet the scents buttons, free shipping over $80, and a photo of a lit candle in a glass jar
Built by Ginta on the Free plan in 96 seconds (17.5 credits) from one message: soy candles in four scents and two sizes, wax melts and a gift set, Australian shipping and pickup. A fictional business.

What candle buyers check before they buy

  • What each scent smells like, in words: the notes ("green fig leaf over warm cedar wood") and the mood. This replaces the sniff test at a market stall.
  • Size, wax and burn time: grams or ounces, soy or coconut or beeswax, the wick, and roughly how many hours.
  • Price and shipping: what delivery costs, when it's free, and whether you post nationwide or collect locally.
  • Real photos of your candles, lit and unlit, in a room.
  • Safety and care: trim the wick, first burn, never leave a candle unattended.
  • Gifts: sets, wrapping, a note.

The sections a candle website needs

  1. Top of the page: what and where ("Soy candles, poured by hand in Fremantle"), Shop candles, the free-shipping line.
  2. The shop: candles, wax melts, gift sets, filtered by type.
  3. The scents: one short paragraph each, so the shop doesn't have to explain them.
  4. Shipping and pickup.
  5. Candle care and your materials.
  6. About you and contact, with your Instagram.

Scents and sizes as choices, not 8 separate products

Four scents in two sizes is 8 combinations. If each is its own product, the shop looks cluttered and a sold-out scent hides somewhere in the list. Ginta's Shop makes it one candle with two choices: buyers pick a scent and a size on the product page, the price follows the size, and you can mark one combination sold out ("Fig & Cedar, large") without touching the rest. The order says "Soy candle · Fig & Cedar · Large 400 g".

The Soy Candle product page on the Salt & Wick website: a photo of a soy candle in a jar on a wooden tray, "from A$28", Scent: Sea Salt & Driftwood, Fig & Cedar, Bush Lime, Vanilla Smoke, Size: Small 200 g, Large 400 g, an Ask about this button and the burn times
One product, two choices: scent and size.
The shop on the website: filters All, Candles, Wax melts and Gift sets, and three products: Soy Candle from A$28, Wax Melts A$12, Gift Set of Two Small Candles A$52, then a "Four scents" section describing each scent
The shop grid, with the scents described underneath.

What happened on our first try: the first time I built this example, Ginta made each scent its own product and searched stock photos by the scent's name, so "Vanilla Smoke" showed a man smoking and "Bush Lime" showed sliced limes. We changed Ginta's instructions the same day (search for what the photo should show, a candle, not the scent's name), and the website on this page is the rebuild. Stock photos are still only placeholders: replace them with your own in the Shop.

Shipping, payment and the boring pages

Ginta set shipping in Australia at $9.95, free from $80, and free pickup in Fremantle, from my message; buyers choose one in the cart. Card payment works once you connect your own Stripe account (Account → Payments): the money goes to your Stripe account and Ginta takes no commission. Until then each product has an Ask about this button.

Add a returns line in the Shop's settings (it shows under every Add to cart button), and check your country's rules for selling candles: safety warnings and labelling are regulated in many places (in the EU, for example, candles are covered by the General Product Safety Regulation, which has applied to consumer products, online and in shops, since 13 December 2024).

How it works with Ginta

Write your scents, sizes and prices, wax melts and sets, shipping and pickup. Ginta builds the website with the shop in about a minute; our example took 96 seconds and 17.5 credits, with no questions. Then add your own photos, change prices and stock in the Shop yourself, and add discount codes or a sale price for a launch. The Free plan holds up to 25 products per website (a candle with scent and size choices counts as one product) at a name.ginta.page address; your own domain and up to 500 products start at €5 a month (with your own Claude or ChatGPT) or €19 on Light. Questions

What's the best free website for a candle business?

One that lets you sell, not only show: a shop with scent and size choices, shipping options and card payment. Ginta's free plan has that for up to 25 products per website; Big Cartel's free plan holds 5 products.

Should I sell on Etsy or my own website?

Many makers do both: Etsy brings buyers who are already searching, your website keeps the customer and the margin. Link your website from your Etsy shop's profile and your Instagram.

How do I describe candle scents online?

Name the notes (top, heart, base, or just "fig leaf, cedar, a little smoke"), say where it fits (a bathroom, a winter evening), and compare it to something people know. One short paragraph per scent is enough.

Can I sell gift sets?

Yes: a set is its own product with its own price and photo. Buyers who want different scents in the set can say so in the order note.
